Every year I acumulate a lot of pending projects. Every DecemberI  feel bad about it and  I try to finish at least one of those.  Every New Year I promise to myself not to do it again... become kind of a tradition...

This year for a change, instead of finishing a pending project, I started a new one with a deadline to finish it on Dec31st.

 I missed working with paper, so I grabed the Branch Depot from Clever Models in 1/48. It is the first time I'm building something from them, my opinion counts very little as I never went beyond beginner's level, but must say that the kit is very well thought and very convincing. Enough said, some photos.

Todos os anos acumulo projectos, todos os anos por esta altura fico deprimido com isso e tento acabar pelo menos um. Todas as noites de Ano Novo prometo a mim próprio nunca mais deixar coisas para trás...

Este ano mudei para pior. Decidi iniciar um projecto novo, tendo como data limite o dia 31 de dezembro para o acabar.

Este ano ainda não tinha construido nada em papel, peguei num kit simples da Clever Models. Não que a minha opinião conte muito, mas acho os kits da Clever Models muito bem pensados e bastante realistas. estou a construir uma estação de ramal que tenciono usar para uma maqueta ferroviária em 1/48.

Mas chega de conversa, algumas fotos:

The walls were glued to 2mm cardboard.

As paredes foram coladas em cartão madeira de 2mm

 

The reinforcemet cardboard in the front and back walls have a recess on either sides to allow the  facades to join.

O cartão de reforço nos alçados da frente e de trás fazem o desconto de duas espessuras para que as fachadas possam encostar na perfeição. 

 

 

The constructive system of Clever Models is of lamination to acquire relieve.

O método construtivo da Clever Models é por laminação para obter relevo. 

 

Airbrushed with acrylic transparente green from Vallejo the inner walls.

Pintei as paredes interirores com verde transparente da Vallejo.

 

The "wood panelling" is made with texturised card I hand painted with acquarele.

Os "painéis de madeira" forma feitos com cartão texturizado pintado com aguarelas.

 

The door before glued in place. The glazing was glued with paper glue between two prints of the door. To add extra depth I laminated the frames. The door knob is a pin.

A porta antes de colada no lugar. O vidro - no tamanho de toda a porta pra lhe dar rigidez, foi colada num sanduiche de duas impressões da porta. Para salientar a espessura da porta, laminei uma camada extra só com a estrutura, acentuando as depressões do vidro e da almofada.  

It ends up not visible, but made a "wood panel" ceiling.

Não se vê, mas construí um tecto em painel de madeira.

The lamination of windows and door pay off

A laminação das janelas e da porta contribuem muito para a beleza do modelo. 

 

Bought a texture sheet form Clever Models as I didn't wanted to used the corrugate metal roof from the kit.

Comprei uma textura de telhado da Clever Models pois não me interessava usar a cobertura em chapa ondulada do kit. 

Definetly a wast of time, to glue the middle beam as it wont't be seen...

Uma perda de tempo colar a asna central, já que não se vai ver... 

Curtains in tranlucent paper to hide the empty interior. Visible the LED that will light the interior.

Cortinas com papel vegetal para esconder o interior vazio. O LED provisoriamente no lugar.

Usei aerógrafo para a primeira fase da pintura, já montei os braços posteriores que não estão ocupados, deixei os anteriores para mais tarde, de forma a acertar na composição, quando tiver a cabeça da Alice no lugar.

I used na airbrush in the first stage of the work to achieve shiny metal parts. The front mechanical arms inthe aht weren't assembled as I feel it is advisable to do it when I have assembled the figure of Alice.

 

 



ROUTINES / ROTINAS PART 1

Rotinas é uma expressão ambivalente. É a repetição sistemática de acções e é uma expressão em informática que designa programação (que repete sistematicamente determinadas acções).

Um dia, numa catástrofe a Humanidade desaparecesse e robots com funções muito primárias  entretanto criados continuassem a desempenhar as suas funções? Um robot polícia de trânsito a patrulhar a área que lhe foi designada para verificar estacionamento ilegal. A quantidade de multas que iria passando ao longo da sua vida... Um robot operário de um qualquer serviço municipalizado que manteria uma série de válvulas a funcionar...

Routines is an ambiguous word. It means what we do systematically and repetetive but also describes a computer programing procedure.

And what if...

One day mankind would disapear in a catastrophe but robots meanwhile created to perform simple tasks such as checking ilegal parking or maintenance duties would go on with their routines? A copper endlessly issuing parking tickets or a "blue colar" checking valves.

The salt technique to paint several shades of rust,  primer and the final coat of painting.

Depois de ter comprado um kit, decidi comprar mais outro para criar a cena que descrevi no início. ainda estou a pinta-los e não tenho nenhuma ideia acerca da encenação da história, ou mesmo como será o aspecto final dos robots.

I later bought another kit to follow the idea of a dead cityscape with these robots going around in their tasks, mindless of what happenned to the server, Mankind.

não resisti a tentar uma pequena vinheta sobre o ciclo imparável da vida, que se renova constantemente.

O material é nylon e é muito poroso. A técnica de pintura que experimentei foi em washes, um pouco como com aguarela. Os detalhes finos das juntas do crâneo forma feitos com uma caneta de feltro 0.05

When I found this elk skull in Shapeways i couldn't resist trying a simple vignette about the unstopabel lifecycle, constantly renewing.

The material of the model is nylon and quite porous. The painting technique I used is of washes, similar to aquarelle painting. The fine details on the skull joints were doen with a felt pen 0.05.

 

Uma base redonda embora haja uma frente, a berma de um rio. Sobre um disco de PVC que tinha em casa, colei uma altura de polistireno extrudido, vulgo roofmate. Cobri com uma fina camada de pasta Das Pronto. O revestimento final é areia de rio bem lavada para remover a argila em suspensão e por cima (a camada castanha escura) usei borras de café. A textura granulada e a cor escura replicam o solo destas zonas.

A round base cut form a PVC piece, extruded foam covered in Das Pronto clay. Then sand I washed throriughly to remove the caly residues and on top of it to replicate the thin layeer of fertile soil, used ground coffee. The texture and rich dark brown colour make in my opinion a very convincing soil.

Marquei a posição do crâneo, "plantei"  vegetação da marca Noch e colei o crâneo com uma gota de cola-tudo.

Marked the position of the skull, "planted" Noch foliage and glued in place the skull.

 

 

CAVALEIRO AO SERVIÇO DE D. AFONSO HENRIQUES

Knight at the service of D. Afonso Henriques

D. Afosnos henriques ( nasceu cerca de 1109/faleceu em 1185) foi o primeiro rei de Portugal. Declarou independencia do seu Condado, parte do Reino de Leão e teve de batalhar muito pela independencia.

 A pintura do busto foi o exercício de um workshop organizado pela AMM no fim-de-semana de 31 de Agosto e 1 de Setembro, no Montijo. Fernando Ruiz Ceano de barcelona e sócio da H&V foi o mestre que orientou o trabalho intensivo. Não ahvia possibilidade de se acabar a totalidade da figura nos dois dias, mas ficou quase terminada.

 A escultura é de um cavaleiro Normando, mas é improvável ter-se verificado mudanças do equipamento em tão pouco tempo.

D. Afonso Henriques is the first king of Portugal (ca. 1109/1185). Declared independence from the Kingdom of Leon and had to fight for it hard. The blue cross on white was the first flag of Portugal.

The painting of the bust was done on a workshop organized by AMM in the weekend of 31st 31st August and 1st Spetember in Montijo. Fernando Ruiz Ceano from barcelona and partner of H&V led the intensive workshop. There was no way to finish the bust in two days but it was almost done.

 The bust is of a Norman warrior, but the equipement couldn't be that different in so short time.

Paleta molhada, um truque que me ensinaram no curso. Uma caixa de plástico de bordos baixos, uma esponja de cozinha e papel de forrar tabuleiros para levar ao forno da marca GLAD.  Antes de colocar o papel, enche-se a caixa com água. Tentei em casa com Vileda e não é o mesmo. GLAD não se desfaz e o da Vileda acaba por rasgar depois de muito tempo em água. A água impede que a tinta seque. Com a caixa fechada tive tinta fresca durante dois ou três dias no tempo quente de verão. Quem me ensinou o truque diz que coloca no frigorífico a caixa fechada e lhe dura por uma semana.

Wet palette, a trick that I was tought by a coleague during the workshop. A plastic box (sandwich box with lid), a kitechen sponge, and GLAD paper, the one used to avoid baking to stick to the trays. Tied with Vileda and it doesn't work properly. During hot summer days, with the lid closed I could keep the Vallejo paints workable for two or thee days. The friend that tought me the trick claims to be able to keep the paint working for one week by keeing it in the fridge.

Outro truque interessante foi o de utilizar embalagens de comprimidos como paletas descartáveis. Muito prático não só por dispensar limpezas como nos faz ter mais cuidado com as quantidades de tinta que colocamos na paleta de cada vez.

Another interesting trick, to use pill palettes. No need to wash, just throw them away as it makes us be more careful with the quantities of paint we pour each time.

 

 

Fui o único a usar avental, mas dois modelistas acabaram com as suas T-shirts "decoradas" com pinceladas fortuítas...

I was the only one to use an apron, but two of the participants got their T-shirts "decorated" with accidental brush strokes...
